Nuffield Tractor

The Nuffield tractor was produced from 1948 by the agricultural division of Morris Motors. This later became a subsidiary of The British Motor Corporation. This originally British tractor has a rich history. When founder Williams Morris was honoured with a title and elevated to the peerage, he chose Nuffield as the name of his village. When Morris Motors launched its first range of tractors in 1948, Nuffield also became the name for its agricultural products.

The design of the Nuffield Universal, one of the marque's most popular tractors, is similar to that of the David Brown 50D. The designer, Dr Merit, worked on this model before he joined Nuffield. Nuffield also produced models under the name M4, M3, DM4 and PM4. Initial production was for domestic use, but by 1950 export opportunities were being sought. The Nuffield also proved popular in the Netherlands, initially imported by Bautz. In the Netherlands the Nuffield 4 was marketed as the Nuffield "Vier". In Spain the brand name was Sava Nuffield. In 1968 Nuffield became part of Leyland Tractors through a merger.
