The Fordson Dexta was introduced in 1957 for smaller farms and garden work. The model was produced until 1961 in Dagenham, England. The Fordson Super Dexta was a successful update of the Fordson Dexta, which went into production in 1962. The Fordson Dexta was originally marketed to compete with the successful Massey Ferguson 35. The Fordson Dexta and MF35 shared the basic housings of the gearbox and differential as well as many other parts.
The Fordson Dexta came standard with the Perkins A3 engine, with a few differences from its competitor. The engine had a displacement of 144 cc, while the MF25 and later machines had the 152 cc version. The two tractors also had different injector systems. The petrol version of the Dexta had basically the same standard engine as the Ferguson. The only difference was that the starter motor on the Dexta was moved to the right side. Unlike the Ferguson, the petrol Dexta had the same gearbox casting as the diesel version. So overall, the Fordson Dexta or Super had a lot going for it.
